Wilmslow based Mather & Co has collaborated with MUSE Exhibitions of Lisbon, Portugal on the concept design approaches at the new FC Porto Football Club Museum which opened to the public on October 26, 2013.

Mather & Co produced the concept designs for the individual galleries and showcase displays, and worked closely with the MUSE team from project development through to completion and opening.

“This is another international sporting museum that Mather & Co has designed. We worked very closely with MUSE, drawing from our extensive experience, to ensure that the designs for the museum were first class,” explains Chris Mather, chief executive, Mather & Co.

“Using themed environments our designs have brought context to the extensive cased artefact displays, whilst high-tech interactives, mapped projections and immersive audio-visual experiences allow visitors to be enveloped within the stories and to fully engage with the exhibition in a unique and emotional journey through the rich history of one of the most important football clubs in the world.”

The 8,000 square metre museum features 27 exhibition galleries focusing on various themes including the club’s history, its star players past & present, national & international trophies & successes, as well as the stadiums, the presidents, and the fans.

Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, FC Porto President said: “It’s a fantastic piece of work that exceeded all of our expectations. The museum has a moving message to tell. It’s the story of FC Porto – those who have lived through these moments, nearly all of them glorious, really feel moved because they know, more than anyone, what it represents.

This is a fantastic piece of work. I think it’s not only something that FC Porto is proud of – it will be the pride of Porto.”

Antero Henriques, FC Porto SAD’s Director-General said: “The museum provides Porto with a facility that is unique in the country and is likely to be a global reference in terms of football.”
